DONALD JAMES MARKEY, age 92, of Inverness, died June 10, 2013 under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Donald was born on July 19, 1920 in Lowell, MA to the late James and Lillian (Iredale) Markey.
He served our country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII, retiring out of the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Col. He was a supervisor for the United States Postal Service. He loved sports, especially the Buccaneers, Gators and Rays. He enjoyed researching geneaology and war history. Donald was married to his wife, Virginia Clyde (McBrien) for almost 70 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Beverly (Terry) Gentry, Inverness, Karen (Mike) Janczy, Waldorf, MD and Kathy (Billy) Daugherty, Seminole, FL; his brother William (JoAnne) Markey, Clearwater, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald James Markey, Jr., and a brother, Gene.
A graveside military service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 12:45 PM at Bay Pines Veterans Cemetery in St. Petersburg. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
