DONALD EMERSON HARRIS, age 93, died March 29, 2013 at the HPH Hospice House in Lecanto. Don was born on October 30, 1919 in Birmingham, MI to the late Thomas and Zella (Hillyer) Harris. He served our country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a Captain and a fighter pilot, receiving meritorious achievement awards, successfully completing numerous long over-water missions involving flights of 1500 miles, in the face of enemy antiaircraft fire and air operations over the Japanese mainland. Following his Army discharge, Donald was employed as a line technician for Detroit-Edison, a position he held for over 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his later years, playing tennis, pitching horseshoes and using his CB radio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Margaret on May 24, 2000 and his only brother, Edward in 1972. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Daryl and his wife Pam Harris of Lehigh Acres, FL and Dennis and his wife Maureen “Mo” Harris, Gaston, S.C.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral tribute to Donald’s life will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with military honors. The family will receive friends in visitation from 1:30 PM until the hour of service.
