MELVIN \”MEL\” F. PARKER, JR., age 65, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Mel was born on August 29, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama to Melvin F. and Julia (Sullivan) Parker. He served our country in the United States Air Force. Mel was employed as the general manager for Carrier Services. He enjoyed baseball and coaching youth leagues, was an avid Jeff Gordon and NASCAR fan as well as a devoted Alabama \”Crimson Tide\” fan. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Georgia Parker, Hernando; his mother, Julia Parker, Alabama; two sons Mark (Sheena) Parker, Wesley Chapel, FL and Allan (Angela) Parker, Citrus Springs, FL; his daughter Tammy (Jason) McLain, Hernando; two sisters, Beth (William) McGinnis, PA and Cindy Johns, AL; nine grandchildren, Chris, Kayla, Taylor, Krista, David, Jake, Karlie, Savannah, and Bristol. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Kell officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family will receive friends in visitation on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6-8 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. The family requests donations in Mel\’s memory to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in lieu of flowers.
