M. Patricia Haber (“Pat”), of Crystal River, passed away peacefully under Hospice Care at Cypress Cove Care Center on Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was 86. She had been a resident of Cedar Creek Assisted Living. Pat was born in Kearny, New Jersey to Robert F. Smalley, Jr. and Mary Ann (Bayer) Smalley. As a young woman Pat bred and showed Collies, and she loved every minute of it. She met Joseph Haber in Kenilworth, NJ, and they married on June 13, 1959. They soon started their own little family and she then became a homemaker. Pat absolutely adored her family, and being able to remain at home to take care of her husband and their children was a treasure. She was very much a social butterfly, enjoyed playing Bingo and card games, swimming, traveling with her husband, and getting together for annual trips with her husband and family. Another pastime that Pat thoroughly enjoyed was reading mystery novels, and Mary Higgins Clark and Danielle Steele were her favorite authors. Pat was a very devoted parishioner in St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River, and when she could no longer attend in person, Father Richard would visit her at home regularly. Prior to being moved to Cypress Cove, Pat spent eight and a half years at Cedar Creek Assisted Living and she loved it there. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at both facilities!
One thing she will always be remembered for is her lovely smile. Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph Haber in 2016; her sister, Mary Jane Ross; her niece, Mary Ellen Akers; and her nephew, Harry Hunter, Jr. Those left to cherish Pat’s memory are her sons, Robert Haber of Homosassa and Michael Haber (Patti) of New Bern, NC; her daughter, Catherine Simmons (Mark) of La Plata, MD; her sister, Lauren Sorrentino of Pennsylvania; her two grandchildren, Emily Ann Haber and Noel Summer Simmons; and three nieces, Elizabeth Ann Ross, Beth Sorrentino, and Joy Sorrentino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 455 S Suncoast Blvd, Crystal River, FL 34429 on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00am. Private cremation arrangements are under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Daystar Life Center of Citrus County.
