Where Planning Is A Gift That Lives On
Richard “Dick” Gwinn

Richard “Dick” Gwinn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Dick Gwinn, age 84. Dick passed peacefully at his Crystal River, FL home with all the love and support of his devoted family. His love for life and his family were evident throughout his long, full life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Maryanne Gwinn, his brother, Albert Gwinn and his sister Eleanor Wright. He is survived by his wife, Catharyne “Kitty” Gwinn, his children David Gwinn, Jennifer Bellow, Rebecca York (Kroy), John Conway, Richard Conway (Melissa) and Stephanie Henman, with eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and by his sister Carolyn Suba.

Dick, a native of Tucson AZ, was born in February 1940. He grew up the youngest of four children in a small adobe house on the outskirts of town. From a young age he always had an adventurous heart as seen from one of his first life-long passions, riding motorcycles! He loved riding through the desert and up to Mount Lemmon. Another passion he developed when he was young was his love of sports, being the Arizona state champion in the high hurdles in his junior and senior years in high school and being awarded a full scholarship to college with football. He followed many teams throughout his life (Wildcats were always his favorite) and would carry on conversations about every major sport with great detail. After school, Dick went on to serve two years in The United States Army. During these years he was privileged to serve with the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, specializing in the trumpet. Some of his fondest, and most fun, memories are of his time in Washington DC. Shortly after his enlistment ended it was recommended to him by his brother-in-law and best friend, Mike Suba, to join a local union in Tucson. There he very quickly learned what would become his life-long trade, being a millwright. His precision and attention to detail were not only seen in his craftsmanship and mechanics but in all aspects of his life that were important to him, his family being at the top of the list. Dick was a tireless provider, working long relentless hours to make sure his wife and children had everything they needed. Beyond that, the excitement he put into every holiday, event, and family gathering was contagious. He was always the life of the party, singing, dancing, and telling the most elaborate stories. Everyone who knew him couldn’t help but love him! We will all have our own stories to tell about him now, with emphasis on his enormous heart and generosity to everyone he loved. He helped mold us all into the incredible people he always knew we were. There are no words to describe our pain as we will mourn him until our last breath. As the waves of grief and gratitude come may we honor his legacy, cherishing every moment with each other and hold tight to his memory with the fullness of our hearts.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 3 until 5pm at Whispering Pines Park in Inverness. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.
