Catharine K. Bartlett, 89 years, beloved educator, devoted family member, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at her home in Inverness, FL, under the care of Vitas Hospice. She was born on January 4, 1936 in Worcester, MA, to the late Otis and Catharine Kaler.
Cathy was preceded in death by her first husband, Don G. Bartlett, in 1983; her second husband, Frederick H. Schumm, in 2022; and her brother, John Kaler.
She is survived by her children: David A. Bartlett (Teresa) of Hernando, FL; Linda B. Wilkerson (Kurt) of Haymarket, VA: sister, Anne K. Arndt of Garner, NC; her grandchildren: Eric M. Wilkerson, Kelly M. Wilkerson, of Haymarket, VA; Kristina L. Godwin of Crestview, FL; David Schumm, and Michael Schumm of Inverness, FL; and her great grandson, Brock Godwin of Crestview, FL.
A dedicated educator with a passion for learning and teaching, Cathy graduated with Honors from Lesly College in 1957 with a degree in Education, and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of South Florida in 1978. She began her teaching career in Holden, MA before moving to Inverness, FL in 1973 with her husband Don and their kids. Cathy served the Citrus County School system as an elementary educator and reading specialist at Hernando Elementary and Inverness Primary Schools until her retirement.
Cathy’s creative talents shone through her love of knitting – her beautifully crafted sweaters and blankets are treasured by her family and friends. She had a deep love for travel and explored much of the World alongside Fred. Above all else, Cathy cherished her family and created a welcoming haven for them during her 51 years in Inverness.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved hers.
