Roberta J. Radant, 92, of Beverly Hills, Florida passed away peacefully July 10, 2023 at the New Horizons Assisted Living facility in Inverness. Roberta was born on October 6, 1930 in Albany, New York to the late Joseph J. and Florence (King) Marx.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 68 years, Ralph William Radant, her children Roxanne Hindson and her husband Ted of South Windsor, CT and Russell Radant and his wife Sandra of Central Village, CT. In addition to Roxanne and Russell, she leaves behind seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Roberta was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
After marrying Ralph, they lived in several locations before settling down in Vernon, CT, where she raised her family. She lived in Vernon for 27 years before retiring and moving to Beverly Hills, Florida. While in Connecticut, Roberta was a member of the First Congregational Church in Vernon.
Roberta spent her early life in upstate New York with her family. She enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fly and ice fishing, swimming, motor boating, and speed skating at the campground on Saratoga Lake that her family owned. She was a true Tomboy and embraced her competitive spirit.
Roberta was a pioneer in women sports, participating and excelling in various activities at a time when it was not common for women to do so. She was an avid golfer and appreciated the opportunity it gave her to enjoy the outdoors and an excuse for a cold beer afterwards. Roberta was a member of the Skungamaug River Golf Club in Coventry, CT for many years. She was also a fan of women’s college basketball, enthusiastically following the UCONN Huskies.
Roberta was an Office Manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance in Glastonbury, CT and retired to Citrus County in 1993.
In her retirement, she enjoyed genealogy research, puzzles, playing cards, and reading spy and suspense novels. Roberta also had a great love of Opera and Broadway musicals, listening to them frequently and traveling the East coast to catch some of her favorite shows.
