James H. Swasey, 90 years, passed away August 8, 2022 at home in Inverness with his loving family by his side. He was born in Portland ME, to the late Frederick Swasey and Marion Harding. James married Dorothy L. Johnson, December 22, 1956. He has been a resident of Inverness for the past 23 years, previously residing in Clearwater FL for 32 years, coming from Canandaigua, NY, in 1968.
He served his country proudly in the US Army Reserve, and by the grace of God he was on the brink of being sent to Korea, but the US Army left him to remain stateside.
James was an engineer in telecommunications. He was employed with GTE retiring in 1994, in Clearwater, FL after many years. He and his wife traveled and resided in many towns throughout the Eastern United States, while he was employed. James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was involved with many organizations including being a Mason with Canandaigua Lodge 294 F. & A.M., Canandaigua, NY, The NRA, Boy Scouts of America, where he was a scout leader and took great pride helping the young men under his charge, Little League Baseball, EAA, (Experimental Aircraft Association), and the American Legion. He was a Marshall for Indy Car Racing at The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, formerly known as St. Pete Clearwater International Grand Prix. He was an avid boater and fisherman, he was in the Bass Masters Tournament and also enjoyed photography, art, painting, and was a great prankster with his family and friends. Another one of his skills, he could fix just about anything.
James was predeceased by his parents; Frederick and Marion Swasey, and his sister; Bette Ann Cushman.
His survivors include, his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy L. Swasey, 1 son; James Frederick Swasey of Fort Collins, CO and his daughter; Cynthia A. Johnson, of Inverness, 2 sisters; Deborah Cerny and Sandra Pappas, grandchildren; Steven and his wife Leslie, Jordan and his wife Kaitlynn, James, Delaney and her husband Ian, and Sommer, and great grandchildren; Konner and Charlie.
