Royce A Samons

Royce (Potsy) A. Samons, age 86, of Inverness, FL was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 6th, 2022.
Royce was born in Arkansas Creek-Cracker, KY on Feb 6th, 1936 to Robert Ellis and Patsy Virginia Samons. The 4th of five sons, Royce grew up working on his family’s farm. After graduating from Martin High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country. Upon completing 4 years of service he returned to KY, where he met and married Palestine Mosley of McDowell. During their 18-year marriage, they would live in Florida and have three children, Gwen, Serena, and Bobby.
Later he moved back to KY where he married and lived with his second wife the late Audessa Akers and her daughter Rhonda Lane. Loving Florida he would move his family back to Brooksville to live on the family farm where he raised cattle and a hearty garden. He retired from Citrus Memorial Hospital after 17 years of service as the Director of Plant Operations.
He moved to Inverness in 2005 where he became a well-known and respected member of his community. He could be found mowing lawns, working on his house, or just swinging on the porch watching the birds. Royce always spoke highly of his neighbors and liked helping them with anything they needed. His family is extremely grateful for all those who were always willing to lend him a hand.
He will be missed by many. He was a kind man, a hard worker, and always played to win. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working crossword puzzles, shooting pool, playing poker, drinking shine, or was it making a batch or two? Well, we will have to leave that one up in the air.
Royce is survived by 4 children: Gwen Simpkins, Melbourne, Fl; Rhonda Lane, Brooksville, FL; Serena Westmoreland, Laurens, SC; Robert “Bobby” Samons, Inverness, FL; 1 brother: Berman Samons, Shepherdsville, KY: 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers: Ward Samons, Jim Samons, and Robert (Pag) Samons.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home at 12:00 Noon. Family and friends will share their memories of Royce at that time until the procession departs for Florida National promptly at 1:15 PM.
