On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, John W. (Flynn) Roos, loving husband and father to four children, passed away at the age of 67. John was born on April 1, 1954 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Jack and Wilma (Brandt) Flynn. He earned his BA in English from the University Of New Hampshire while serving his country in the US Air Force. He retired from 20 years of active duty as a Tech Sergeant having served during both the Vietnam and First Gulf Wars. He then went on to serve the Citrus County School District as a Journeyman Trades Worker HVAC before retiring a second time in 2019. In 2009, he married Lynn Hillis of Floral City, FL where they shared her two boys, Michael and Steven. Preceding this, on April 29, 1978, he married Rebecca Sue Estes of Norwich, VT and raised their son Jason and for a time, Dr. Wesley Mann of Gainesville, FL. John had a passion for history. He loved ancient cultures and spent a lot of his free time learning about Roman, Greek, Aztec, and Mayan civilizations. He also loved old maps, nautical charts, and books. Professionally, John was known for his courteousness, politeness, and assiduousness. John was amicably thought of as a ‘gentle giant.’ John was preceded in death by his father, Jack Flynn, his mother, Wilma (Brandt) Roos, and his stepfather, Ralph Roos. He is survived by his wife Lynn Hillis, his four children – Jason, Wesley, Michael and Steven, his daughter-in-law Heidi, his grandchildren Arihana and Bryson, his brother Gary, his Sister Jane, and several nieces, and nephews. John will be laid to rest in Spokane, Washington at a later date. There will be a celebration of life on Thursday July 1, 2021, at 2pm at Redemption Point Assembly of God 4201 S. Pleasant Grove Rd, Inverness, Florida 34452, Ph: 352-726-1107.
