Dorothea May MacKenzie of Beverly Hills, FL passed away at Brentwood Healthcare Center on May 31, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born to the late Ernest and Florella (Gerber) McPherson on January 10, 1933 in Ventnor City, NJ. Dorothea was married to her husband John R. MacKenzie for 45 years at the time of his passing on February 22, 1999. She and John made Citrus County their home in 1996 after relocating from Atco, NJ. Dorothea had a terrific sense of humor, was extremely witty and loved to make others laugh and smile. She enjoyed getting together with her friends to play cards, was an avid reader and liked going to casinos. Dorothea also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Those left to mourn Dorothea’s passing include her sons: Steven S. MacKenzie and his wife Dorothy of Crystal River, FL, John R. MacKenzie and his wife JinSoo of Spring Hill, FL; sisters: Nancy Jones of Cherry Hill, NJ, Mary Lou Paxton of Floral City, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy MacKenzie in 2015.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness and will be conducted by Pastor Mike Sellars of First Baptist Church of Floral City. Dorothea will be laid to rest with her husband John at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
