Phyllis Wickberg

Phyllis Wickberg age 84 of Lecanto, FL passed away peacefully at Diamond Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of HPH Hospice on December 16, 2020. Phyllis was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 2, 1936 to the late Arnold and Florence (Williams) Carson. She graduated from high school in Minneapolis and eventually married Hallard Corey. She was a devoted wife and mother of two sons and worked tirelessly to care for her family inside and outside the home. Phyllis sold Avon products door-to-door before serving many years in the Fridley school district. She later had a lengthy career of 20 years with American Guidance Service, a company which published and provided a variety of educational materials to schools throughout the U.S. and world. Phyllis began as the administrative assistant to the general manager, moving on to become the supervisor of customer service, and eventually retiring as the company’s Human Resource Director. Her wonderful personality and strong work ethic carried her far. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and enjoying visiting with her many friends. In the late nineteen eighties she was remarried to Dennis (Denny) Wickberg and resided in Forest Lake, MN. They enjoyed playing golf together and traveled to many courses outside the state. Flea markets and other shopping were typically on the agenda too. After retiring from their careers, they relocated to sunny Florida in December of 1999 to continue their passion of playing golf (year-round of course) and socializing with friends. Unfortunately, Denny passed away suddenly in April 2001. Thankfully, Phyllis was surrounded by many special friends and after a period she was introduced to Don Chopp, who became her close friend and golfing companion through her remaining years. They spent summers at Madeline Island on Lake Superior to escape the Florida heat and enjoy golfing in cooler breezes. When Phyllis was not on the golf course, she was busy socializing and laughing with friends, knitting, exercising, or reading. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and Savior. She was a compassionate and generous person who was thrilled to be an active member of the International Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood which provided college scholarships to women. In addition to her parents and husband, Denny, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister Arlene (Larry) Swinnerton. She is survived by her sons Scott (Kate) Corey and Todd (Dale Elizabeth) Corey; brothers David (Claudia) Carsonand Larry (Lisa) Carson; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation and memorial services are being provided by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL. Following cremation, Phyllis’ urn will be interred with her husband Denny at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers and Phyllis’ love for the P.E.O. Sisterhood’s efforts for assisting women with academic opportunities, check donations can be made out to “Cottey College” and mailed to: Institutional Advancement, Cottey College, 1000 West Austin, Nevada, MO 64772, In Memory of Phyllis Wickberg.
