Hugh Cress

Hugh Cress, age 80, passed away at his winter home in Inverness, FL on Feb.26, 2018, with his wife Patty at his side. Hugh was born in Los Angeles, CA on December 12, 1937 to the late Hugh and Helen (McMunn) Cress. He was a graduate of Jeffersonville High School and Indiana University. He was a beloved teacher/counselor in the Greater Clark County School System for 25 years. Prior to his career in education, Hugh served in the US Navy, was a Vietnam Vet, and retired from the Naval Reserves as a Chief Petty Officer. In retirement, Hugh and Patty enjoyed traveling internationally, following IU Hoosier sports, participating in LifeSpan Resources’ Senior Games, and volunteering for a number of community and charitable organizations.

Hugh is survived by his wife Patty; brother, Walter Cress; sister, Linda Speigelhalder; daughter, Connie Cress; grandchildren: Natalie, Kaitlin, and Mike; great grandchildren: Jessica, Bianca, Basia; and great great grandchildren: Kaiden, Islee, and Logan. He also has nieces and nephews whom he adores. Hugh treasured his many great friends who loved and supported him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Helen Cress; sons, Mike and Mark Cress; and granddaughter Melissa.

A Celebration of Life event will be held in Indiana in the spring. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to the Falls of the Ohio State Park or LifeSpan Resources. Cremation care under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
