Gemma (DiLullo) Atkisson, 93, of 978 Main St., Hope Valley and former resident of Inverness, Fla., died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Atkisson, Sr.
Born in Providence, R.I. on Feb. 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Bernardo and Lucia (D’Amico) DiLullo.
Gemma had been employed in the jewelry industry and later worked for Ann and Hope in Warwick, and retired from Leviton Manufacturing in Kingston, R.I.
Mrs. Atkisson was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Hope Valley, and while living in Inverness, Fla. was an active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, golfing, playing cards and Scrabble.
Gemma will be sadly missed by her three children, Barbara Murphy and her husband, Brian, of Hope Valley, Robert J. Atkisson, Jr. and his wife, Dale, of Hope Valley, and Ray J. Atkisson and his wife, Debbie, of Oxford, Maine. She was the loving grandmother of eight; and great-grandmother of 13. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 1105 Main St., Hope Valley. Graveside services to follow at Florida National Cemetery on Wed., August 24th at 11:30 AM under direction of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph Church, PO Box 388, Hope Valley, R.I. or to Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, R.I. 02904.
