Vera I. Irons, age 93, of Dunnellon, FL died June 2, 2016 at Citrus Hills Health and Rehab, Hernando. Vera was born on September 24, 1922 in Cincinnati, OH to the late John and Iva (Day) Younger. In 1945, she proudly served her country as a member of the United States Navy and worked in communications. After her military service, Vera worked as a beautician. In 1971, she made Citrus County her home after relocating from Erlanger, KY. She spent a great deal of her spare time gardening and grew beautiful flowers and wonderful vegetables. Vera also loved to read and was a great cook. She had a special love for her cockatiel bird, Wally. Vera will be remembered as a great and loving mother and grandmother. Those left to mourn her passing are her two children: James Irons of Dunnellon, FL and Joni Irons of Inverness, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Jade Swenson, Jaime Tobin and Jasmine Diaz; and four great-grandchildren: Jill Kern, Jaylee Martin, Matt Blecker and Natalie Diaz. The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL is assisting the family with private cremation arrangements. Vera’s urn will be laid to rest in Reddick, FL at a later date.
