Lila L. Hallquist, age 90, of Homosassa, FL, died April 17, 2016 at home while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Lila was born on December 23, 1925 in Duluth, Minnesota to the late Carl and Hulda (Karhu) Lane. She was married to Bernard (Bud) W. Hallquist for 38 years until his passing in 1981. Lila was employed by the 3M Corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota as an accountant for 18 years. She and Bud raised their daughter, Deborah in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and retired to their dream house on the lake in Chisago City, Minnesota in 1977. In 1998, she became a snowbird resident of Citrus County, splitting her time between her home on Viola Lake, Wisconsin and Inverness, Florida. She became a full-time resident of Citrus County in 2008.
She was a brave and strong, compassionate and caring, beautiful, fun-loving and practical woman. She loved her family and friends (and her politics) passionately. She loved to travel and was endlessly curious. She never met a stranger-everyone who crossed her path was worthy of her time and attention. She loved to read and was a contributing Friend of the Homosassa Library. She loved the water and whether it was fishing on the lake of just watching the dolphins and the manatees from her home on the river, it always brought her joy. Her strong faith and her Finnish “Sisu” were an inspiration to so many. She was a member of the Homosassa Garden Club, The Elks Club of Homosassa, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Deborah AuWerter and her husband John of Homosassa, FL; her beloved niece, Barbara J. Parks of Duluth, MN; and many other friends and family.
Lila’s urn will be laid to rest with her late husband, Bernard, at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
